Black History Month Celebration
Black History Month is an annual observance in February (in the U.S. and Canada) dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the achievements, history, and contributions of Black people to society. It began in 1926 as Negro History Week, created by historian Carter G. Woodson. The week was chosen to coincide with the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln (February 12) and Frederick Douglass (February 14), both of whom played significant roles in shaping the history of Black Americans.
In 1976, the observance was expanded to a month, and since then, it has become a time to honor the legacies of Black leaders, activists, artists, scientists, and many others who have impacted the world, as well as reflect on the ongoing struggles for racial equality and justice.
