
The 2024-2025 W.O. Lance Elementary School Teacher of the Year is Ryan Nelson.
Coach Nelson is an enthusiastic and innovative Physical Education teacher who has been at W. O. for 8 years. Coach Nelson uses sports education to inspire students not only to develop physical fitness but also foster essential life skills such as teamwork, leadership, discipline, and perseverance.
As a physical education teacher at W. O. Lance, Coach Nelson has created an engaging, student-centered curriculum that incorporates a wide variety of sports and activities to ensure that every student finds joy and success in physical fitness. By emphasizing the values of teamwork, fair play, and personal growth through sports, Coach Nelson encourages students to build both physical skills and their character.
Beyond the gym, Coach Nelson is dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyles and physical well-being throughout the school community. He regularly organizes extracurricular sports programs, school-wide fitness challenges, and community outreach events that encourage lifelong fitness habits. He enjoys being able to give back to his community.
Coach Nelson holds a Physical Education Degree from Auburn University and is a Lanett High Alumni. He has been married to Jessica for 7 years, and they have three beautiful children Lexie, Griffin, and Addyson. He is a member of Victory Baptist Church where he serves as the Vacation Bible School Director. Outside the classroom Coach Nelson enjoys spending time with his family, being head baseball coach for Lanett High School, being the tight ends coach for Lanett High School football, and being the defensive coordinator for Lanett JR. High School, and finds immense joy in coaching his daughter's travel softball team, The East Alabama Elites.

Safety remains a top priority at Lanett City Schools. We would like to inform our stakeholders that the Lanett Police Department has closed its investigation into the social media threat that was believed to have been directed at Lanett City Schools. The investigation revealed that there was not a threat.
