At Lanett City Schools, we believe that understanding our history paves the way for our future. Today, we are proud to highlight an incredible African American educator and visionary who fought for equality and excellence in the classroom, Septima Poinsette Clark.
Septima Poinsette Clark is known as the "Queen Mother" of the Civil Rights Movement, she developed "Citizenship Schools" that helped thousands of African Americans gain the literacy skills needed to vote.

At Lanett City Schools, we believe that understanding our history paves the way for our future. Today, we are proud to highlight the incredible African American educator and visionary who fought for equality and excellence in the classroom, Booker T. Washington.
As the first leader of Tuskegee Institute right here in Alabama, his focus on vocational training and self-reliance continues to influence how we approach education today. He didn’t just manage the school; he built it from the ground up—literally. Booker T. Washington also partnered with Julius Rosenwald to construct over 5,000 schools, shops, and teacher homes for African American children across the south.
