It’s a great day to be a Panther! The Child Nutrition Department is excited to announce new
scratch-based recipes this year. We are committed to providing healthy, delicious meals every meal,
every day to our students! We are also introducing more fresh produce and fruit through the Fresh
Fruit and Vegetable Program at W.O. Lance Elementary School this year. Fresh salads are also
offered weekly on the menu and are made from romaine lettuce grown from a local Alabama farmer.

A few new scratch-based recipes that were added to our program this year:
 Homemade buttermilk pancakes
 Banana Split Breakfast Parfait
 Homemade marinara sauce for Italian dishes
 Homemade Lasagna
 Chicken Parmesan
 Chicken Philly Sub
 Roast Beef with Potatoes and Carrots
 Teriyaki Chicken and Rice Bowls with Stir-Fry Vegetables
 Chicken and Spinach Quesadillas

The Child Nutrition Program (CNP) staff works tirelessly every day to produce large quantities of
meals twice a day for our students. The CNP staff puts forth great effort to prepare meals in a short
period of time while adding love in every bite just to make our students happy in their home away
from home. We want our students to enjoy their food while providing essential nutrients for healthy
minds and bodies for grow.

The Child Nutrition Program served 6,860 breakfasts and 14,225 lunches in the month of August
alone. The Child Nutrition Program is striving for 100 percent student participation for both breakfast
and lunch. It’s a Great Day to be a CNP Panther!

🍎 Fresh Fruit & Veggie Boost: W.O. Lance Elementary is expanding fresh produce options through the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program!
👩‍🍳 More Scratch-Made Meals: Lanett was chosen as one of only six school districts in Alabama to partner with the Chef Ann Foundation! Our staff will be working directly with professional chefs to bring more scratch-cooked recipes to our kitchens district-wide, complete with new grant-funded equipment to make it happen.
🥦 Alabama Farm to School: We're partnering with the AL Department of Agriculture & Industries to bring more locally grown farm-fresh produce to students across the entire district.
☕ MOO-Brew Iced Coffee: Senior high students, get ready! Thanks to a Dairy Alliance Grant, we’re launching a new iced coffee program designed to keep you energized with healthy milk options.

To top it all off, our department passed our recent Alabama State Department of Education routine audit with flying colors—including zero findings for our Summer Feeding Program! 🎉

Lanett City Schools Child Nutrition Department It’s a great day to be a Panther! The Child Nutrition Department wants to extend a warm “Welcome Back to School” to all new and returning students, staff, and faculty! Our department has been busy preparing for the new year and we are excited to see everyone’s smiling faces in our cafeteria. We are committed to providing healthy, delicious meals every meal, every day! A few new things that were added to our program this year:  More Farm to School produce and fruit through the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program at W.O. Lance Elementary  More scratch-based cooking through the Chef Ann Foundation and the Alabama State Department of Education – district wide  More fresh produce and fruit through the Alabama Farm to School Program through the State of Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries – district wide  More healthy milk options through the MOO-Brew Diary Alliance Grant for our senior high students - iced coffee The Child Nutrition Program was chosen to participate in the Chef Ann Culinary Program and chosen as one of six school districts in the whole state of Alabama. The Chef Ann Program allows our child nutrition professionals to work with actual chefs who will provide technical assistance in more scratch- based recipe cooking. Grant funding was also provided to assist with small equipment purchases to make scratch-cooking easier. The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program and the Alabama Farm to School Program provides funding for the purchase of more fresh produce and fruit to reduce food costs for the department. The Moo-Brew Program is a Diary Alliance grant that will provide equipment and training for the Child Nutrition Department professionals at the high school in creating iced coffee to increase milk consumption for our older students. Lastly, a routine audit was conducted by the Alabama State Department of Education in March and June and the Child Nutrition Department had two minor findings for all programs and no findings for the Summer Feeding Program. Whoo Hoo! The child nutrition professionals are doing an outstanding job here in Lanett! It’s a Great Day to be a Panther!

Lanett City Schools is committed to preparing students for success beyond graduation by equipping educators with meaningful, real-world learning experiences. In partnership with the Chambers County Development Authority, teachers and instructional staff serving grades 6–12 recently participated in the "Teachers on Tour" professional development program.

The experience began with an informative workforce panel featuring Mrs. Kim Shane of Smurfit Westrock, Mr. Tramontae Jackson of Hi-Lex, Mrs. Maria Coley of Knauf, and Ms. Ansley Emfinger from the Chambers County Development Authority. The panelists shared valuable insights about career opportunities available within our local industries, the skills employers are seeking, and the importance of developing a highly skilled workforce for the future.

Following the panel discussion, participants toured local manufacturing facilities where they observed advanced manufacturing processes, innovative technologies, and workplace operations firsthand. These experiences provided educators with a greater understanding of the knowledge and skills students need to be successful in today's workforce.

By connecting classroom instruction with local business and industry, Lanett City Schools continues to strengthen career awareness and workforce readiness for all students. The insights gained through this experience will help teachers integrate real-world applications into daily instruction, ensuring students are prepared to pursue college, careers, military service, and other postsecondary opportunities.

Lanett City Schools extends its sincere appreciation to the Chambers County Development Authority, Smurfit Westrock, Daedong Hi-Lex, Knauf, Ajin USA, Challenge, and all of our industry partners for investing in our educators and helping us prepare the next generation of leaders.
